Get free A1C and Lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] screening at Sahara West Urgent Care & Wellness in Las Vegas. Walk-ins welcome.
You don’t always know when your blood sugar or cardiovascular risk factors may be elevated. A simple screening can provide important information about your health and help you understand whether you may need further evaluation.
A1C Diabetes Screening
A blood test that measures your average blood glucose level over approximately the past three months and can help identify prediabetes or type 2 diabetes.
Lipoprotein(a) — Lp(a) Screening
A blood test that measures an inherited cholesterol-related particle associated with cardiovascular risk. Knowing your Lp(a) level can help your healthcare provider better understand your overall heart and stroke risk.

A1C, also called hemoglobin A1C or HbA1c, is a blood test that provides an estimate of your average blood glucose levels over the previous three months.
It can help healthcare professionals identify:
One advantage of an A1C test is that fasting is generally not required.
If an A1C result is in the diabetes or prediabetes range, your healthcare provider can determine whether additional testing or follow-up is appropriate.
Important: An abnormal screening result does not automatically mean you have diabetes. Your healthcare provider may recommend additional testing to confirm a diagnosis.
Lipoprotein(a), commonly called Lp(a), is a cholesterol-carrying lipoprotein in your blood.
Unlike many lifestyle-related cholesterol factors, Lp(a) levels are largely determined by genetics and can remain relatively stable throughout life.
A higher Lp(a) level is associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease, heart attack and stroke.
The 2026 ACC/AHA dyslipidemia guideline recommends that Lp(a) be measured at least once during adulthood.
Knowing your Lp(a) level can give you and your healthcare provider another important piece of information when evaluating your overall cardiovascular risk.
Lp(a) is a risk marker, not a standalone diagnosis of heart disease.
Diabetes and cardiovascular disease can develop without obvious symptoms.
Screening can help identify important risk factors earlier so you can discuss your results and next steps with a healthcare professional.
You may want to ask about screening if you:
Your individual screening needs depend on your age, medical history, family history and other risk factors. Talk with a healthcare professional about which tests are appropriate for you.
A1C and Lp(a) provide different types of health information.
| Screening | What It Measures | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| A1C | Average blood glucose over approximately 3 months | Helps identify prediabetes and type 2 diabetes |
| Lp(a) | A cholesterol-related lipoprotein largely influenced by genetics | Helps assess cardiovascular risk |
A1C asks:
“How has my average blood sugar been over the past few months?”
Lp(a) asks:
“Do I have an inherited cardiovascular risk factor that may be important to know about?”
Together, these screenings can provide useful information about two different areas of your health.
Getting started is simple.
Come to our Las Vegas clinic during normal operating hours.
Our team will collect the information needed for your visit and screening.
A healthcare professional can determine which screening is appropriate based on your situation.
The appropriate blood sample is collected for the screening.
Your healthcare provider can explain what your results mean and whether additional evaluation or follow-up may be appropriate.
Screening is an important first step but it is not a substitute for a complete medical evaluation when one is needed.
You don’t always have time to wait weeks for a traditional appointment. Sahara West offers walk-in access and same-day care.
Our clinic is located at:
6125 W Sahara Ave
Las Vegas, NV 89146
